HCC is pleased to announce a scholarship program to help students with scholastic ability but limited financial means to obtain an education. The annual stipend is $5,000, and will be awarded for students attending a four-year college, two-year community college, or a vocational training program. Application requires submission of an online application consisting of a statement of need (Including current individual/family tax return), a current official academic transcript, and a 200-300-word essay describing how the scholarship will help you achieve your life goals. Awards will be for the current academic year, and will be given to the financial office of the school in which the student is registered.

HCC Scholarship Criteria

Financial need. Preference for this scholarship is to be given to recipients who can demonstrate a financial need, and who would not be able to attend the school of their choice without supplementary monetary assistance. Financial need is established through a copy of the applicant’s family’s tax return and an estimate of the current household income. Financial awards are to be used exclusively for tuition, and will go directly to the financial office or registrar of the school, rather than to an individual.

Acceptable candidates. Preference is to be given to those who are HCC Covenant Partners themselves, or who are children in a Covenant Partner family. The individual will also have evidence of the fruits of the Spirit, as attested to by a character-reference letter initiated by the applicant and conveyed privately to the HCC scholarship committee from at least one of the HCC pastoral staff.

Target recipients. Three types of individuals may qualify for this scholarship.

1.)  Attendees at a two-year community college or a four-year college/university may qualify with a major in any academic discipline. Ministry-related majors are also included.

2.)  A person who desires to attend a trade school may qualify.

3.)  Individuals seeking other training not addressed above, but deemed appropriate by the selection committee, may qualify. Decisions will be made on an individual case-by-case basis.

Continued support. The recipient will maintain an annual GPA of at least 2.5 out of a possible 4.0. Similar minimum grade standards apply for the vocational school or other training referenced above. An exception may be granted for extenuating circumstances [e.g., illness, an incurred disability, ADHD or other learning disabilities, autism, or death of a close family member, etc.] at the discretion of the selection committee.
